From time to time I am asked what gear I use, what lenses I favour and what is typically in my ‘wedding bag.’ I thought I’d put this post together for anyone else who might be interested…
I am a Canon girl. The reason being.. it just so happened that my first DSLR was Canon and one tends to stick to a brand once they’ve purchased that first body and lens!
I believe that both Canon and Nikon are great photographic brands each with their own pro’s and con’s ranging from colour profiles to price to functionality.
So if you are starting out and want to know ‘which is the better brand’ I can quite honestly say that both are great and you really just need to decide what works best for you. Or flip a coin.
Here’s a break down of my kit, all of which I take on weddings except for items marked with an asterix (*)
Camera bodies
Lenses
Lighting
3 X Canon 580 EXll Speedlights
Garyfong diffuser (I cant remember when last I used this but I take it with every time!)
*2 X Phottix 70x70cm pop-up umbrella soft boxes (I use these for products/food etc)
2 X Tristar light stands
Cactus triggers (I use these less and less as I find the master-slave settings for speedlights works well for me)
Collapsable round 103cm reflector
Bags
Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack (Fits SO much in it and is really nice and deep!)
Lowepro Sling bag (I find this bag works much the same as a shootsac while covering weddings)
Accessories & extra’s
In the studio
Adobe Lightroom
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Indesign (for album layout)
numerous Seagate external hard drives
*I’ll be writing a FAQ for the blog soon so if you have any questions (shooting/business/gear/weddings etc) feel free to send them to cmacphotography@live.com and I will try and answer as many as I can as best as I can.
Have a fabulous Thursday gorgeous people!

September 23, 2012 at 11:33 pmThis is some great info for beginners and I’m glad to see that you are sticking to your “brand”.
To many people shift brands for the “image” and not for the image quality… If you know what I mean.
At the end of the day its still about the artist behind the “tools”.

February 11, 2013 at 3:39 amI find when shooting weddings, I NEED the 24 – 105 more often than I need the 70 – 200mm.. but I prefer the 70-200 :)
